Readability Checker

Analyze your content's readability with Flesch-Kincaid scoring. Get grade level, sentence analysis, and actionable improvement tips.

How readability affects SEO

Google doesn't directly use readability scores as a ranking factor, but readability strongly correlates with user engagement metrics that do affect rankings: bounce rate, time on page, and scroll depth.

Target score: For most web content, aim for a Flesch reading ease score of 60–70 (easy to read for the general public). Technical content can go lower (40–60), but avoid going below 30 unless your audience is strictly academic.

Sentence length: Keep most sentences under 20 words. Sentences over 25 words are harder to parse and increase cognitive load — especially on mobile where screen space is limited.

Pair this with our Keyword Density Checker to make sure your content is both readable and keyword-optimized.
